The most popular among Russians this year was white bread. This is shown by a SberMarket study, the results of which were reviewed by socialbites.ca.
Thus, white bread is ordered three times more than baguette bread, which ranks second in preference. Lavash and rye bread shared the third and fourth places. In fifth place in terms of popularity is Borodino bread, chosen for its recognizable and bright taste. Analysts also noted that among all types, baguette and ciabatta are the fastest gaining popularity – they are purchased almost twice as often this year as in 2022.
White loaf is gaining popularity across the country. However, the positions following it in the rankings may vary in different regions. Thus, in Moscow, rye bread takes second place in popularity. Baguette is in third place in the capital. In Yekaterinburg and Rostov-on-Don, however, the rating changes: Baguette takes second place according to customer preferences. Third place in the Yekaterinburg ranking is occupied by Borodino bread, and in Rostov-on-Don this place is occupied by lavash.
Russians are increasingly beginning to show interest in dietary nutrition. Thus, in the period January-September 2023, the demand for rye, rice and buckwheat bread increased by almost 30% compared to the same period last year. Wheat and multigrain breads started to be added to the basket this year by 26% and 14% more frequently compared to 2022.
