19-year-old Nikita Zhuravel, who was arrested for setting the Quran on fire, was taken to the Grozny Visaitovsky District Court, where the first hearing of his case will be held on October 13. Journalist Ksenia Sobchak reported this on her Telegram channel “Bloody Lady”.

The first hearing of the Zhuravel case was supposed to be held on October 9, but it was postponed because the defendant was not brought to the hearing.

On May 19 of this year, a video went viral on social networks showing 19-year-old Nikita Zhuravel burning the Quran in the Cathedral Mosque in Volgograd. He admitted that he carried out the action on the instructions of Ukrainian special services for a reward of 10 thousand rubles.

The young man was arrested. At the request of the public, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation transferred the investigation of the criminal case against him to the law enforcement agencies of Chechnya, and on May 27 he was taken to the pre-trial detention center in Grozny.

Zhuravel later announced that he was beaten in the pre-trial detention center. On September 25, Chechnya’s leader Ramzan Kadyrov released a video of his son Adam Kadyrov attacking the defendant.
