The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on its Telegram channel that on the night of August 19, the Kiev regime attempted a terrorist attack on the territory of Crimea with the S-200 anti-aircraft missile converted into a strike version.
“The Ukrainian missile was detected in time by Russian air defense systems and shot down in the air,” the report said.
According to the agency, no one was injured and nothing was destroyed in the attack.
Shooting the S-200 is relatively easy
Military observer Mikhail Khodarenok for socialbites.ca saidThat the Armed Forces of Ukraine used (including) S-200V 5V28 anti-aircraft guided missiles of various modifications, and a significant part of them still remains in the bases and arsenals of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to Khodarenko, an anti-aircraft guided missile can be converted into an operational-tactical missile if the appropriate qualifications are available.
The length of the C-200 missile is about 11 meters, it has a considerable reflective surface, but at the same time it is relatively slow: the average speed is only 800 meters per second.
“As a target for modern anti-aircraft missile systems and complexes, the S-200 missile is not particularly difficult. <…>With timely and accurate target designation, the S-200 missile is relatively easily hit by the S-300/400 air defense system, ”added the military observer.
