Arson Attack on Former Inspector Linked to Efremov Case in Moscow

In Moscow, unknown assailants set fire to the balcony of former MIA inspector Alexei Mishurov, who had been examining the circumstances of a collision involving actor Mikhail Efremov. The incident has been reported by TASS, citing emergency services.

“A fire erupted on a balcony in a southern district of Moscow on Thursday. It was extinguished quickly, and there were no injuries,” a local official said.

The incident unfolded on Biryulevskaya Street around 17 00 on August 17. The attackers, who stood outside Mishurov’s residence, poured gasoline near him and then set him on fire. Mishurov’s daughter noticed the blaze in time and managed to extinguish it before further harm occurred.

Authorities are actively seeking the arsonists who carried out the attack.

Earlier, the wife of Mikhail Efremov, who was convicted after a drunken driving accident, indicated that the actor may be eligible for parole only in the spring of 2024.

Prior to that statement, reports indicated that Efremov did not appear in court when his request for commutation was to be heard. The court was considering commutation in connection with the June 8, 2020 fatal accident in Moscow. There was speculation that the actor might be ordered to perform corrective labor instead of serving a prison sentence.

Mikhail Efremov was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison following the fatal incident. The accident occurred on June 8, 2020. Earlier updates noted that he has undergone medical procedures for skull trepanation, as well as surgeries related to the pelvis and thigh bones.

Cumulatively, the sequence of events has heightened concerns about public safety around high profile figures and the security measures surrounding investigations into major traffic incidents in the Russian capital. Law enforcement agencies have stressed the need to identify those responsible for both the arson attempt and any intimidation linked to the Efremov case, underscoring a broader push to safeguard officials and witnesses involved in high profile investigations.
