Swimming in open water in hot weather reduces health risks for seniors, but it’s important to take precautions. This was told socialbites.ca by a geriatrician, neurologist, head of the gerontology department of MOIP at Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov Valery Novoselov.

“Bathing helps reduce the harmful effects of heat on the heart and the body as a whole. But you need to take precautions: do not drink alcohol and do not overheat. In addition, excessive exposure to the sun is dangerous for the elderly. Sunscreens can reduce the risk of sunburn, skin cancer and photoaging, while fedora hats, panama hats and other hats can protect against heatstroke.”

There are other factors that can affect a person’s situation: how a person came to the beach, what company he was there. For example, one has to take care of one’s grandchild, while less attention is left to oneself. All this must be taken into account, and often a person cannot cope on his own: Novoselov came to the conclusion that such people simply cannot do without the help of relatives.
