The only Russian aircraft carrier, the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, will return to the Russian Navy in 2024. This was stated by the head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (UAC), Alexei Rakhmanov. DEA News.

According to Rakhmanov, the berth part of the ship’s repair was completed and it left the berth at 17:00 on February 21.

Repair of the Admiral Kuznetsov began in 2017, but in 2018 the PD-50 floating dock suddenly flooded, as a result of which a crane fell on the aircraft carrying cruiser and damaged part of the deck.

Two people were killed and more than ten injured in a fire during welding work on the ship in December 2020. In December 2022, another fire was recorded at Admiral Kuznetsov.

The heavy aircraft carrier cruiser (TAVKR) of project 1143.5 was built in 1991 in Nikolaev. It has a displacement of 61,3 thousand tons and can carry 50 aircraft and helicopters, as well as Granit, Kortik and Dagger missiles.

The presence of missile systems distinguishes an aircraft-carrying cruiser from an aircraft carrier that does not have such weapons.

Kuznetsov’s classmates were sold abroad. TAVKR “Admiral Gorshkov” was completed as the Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier “Vikramaditya”, “Varyag” became the first Chinese aircraft carrier “Liaoning”. Two more project 1143 cruisers turned into floating museums, and two were cut to metal in the 1990s.
