Energodar officials recorded a hit in one of the power units of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP). This was stated by the head of the city administration, Alexander Volga, reported TASS.
“One of the hits – it was in the power unit, an artillery shell. I had a photo. [Энергоблок] not working yet in working condition, ”explained the official.
A representative of Energodar’s pro-Russian officials did not specify when exactly the hit occurred.
He emphasized that the security system of Zaporizhzhya NPP power units has a structure that cannot be penetrated by a single bullet hit.
“Still, the truth remains. What will they shoot with next? “Some decisions need to be made within the framework of all these events,” he said.
Background radiation in the Zaporizhzhya NPP is measured regularly, so far it is normal.
According to experts, concrete more than 1 meter thick is used to protect the power units of the station, reinforced with various steels and other technological methods. It can easily withstand the crash of a medium-sized plane.
Recently, the Russian media and authorities, as well as the leadership of Energodar, regularly report artillery shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces of the Zaporizhzhya NPP.
Last Thursday, Zaporizhzhya NPP and Energodar were visited by an IAEA mission led by Rafael Grossi, Director General of the international agency. At the end of the tour, the official said that the integrity of the station’s facilities is of concern, given the escalating conflict in the region. Now the staff of the IAEA mission remains at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant to monitor the situation.
Made in America
The head of the Energodar administration, Alexander Volga, said that on the territory of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, after the Ukrainian bombardment, parts of American-made missiles were found.
“[Осколки] “It corresponds to the American multiple launch rocket system, missiles produced by other Western countries, and cannonballs fired from the M-777 howitzer,” he said.
Volga added that the Ukrainian army also bombed the city of Energodar, which is controlled by the Russian Armed Forces.
“The ammunition hit one of our comrades: it broke the glass, smashed into the wall while lying on the sofa; He survived by luck,” the official summed up.
Ukrainian state agency Energoatom reported that on September 3, the fifth power unit of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant was shut down after the bombing of the communication lines.
on the evening of September 3, 2022 <...> At 19:35, power unit No. 5 of ZNPP was disconnected from the electricity grid”.
They added that at the moment, the sixth power unit, which has limited capacity, provides electricity to Ukraine through a backup line, and also meets the needs of the station, continues to operate.
