“America’s most accurate bullets.” Pentagon hands over GPS-guided Excalibur to Ukraine

“Invisible” transmission

US documents confirming “a previously unannounced addition to the arsenal collected to fight the Russian invasion” turned out to be At Bloomberg’s disposal. The publication reports that in terms of replenishing Excalibur stockpiles, the United States for the first time admitted that the Pentagon supplied these shells to the Ukrainian army. However, despite media reports that the bullets were already being used in Ukraine, authorities avoided editorial questions about Excalibur.

“The Department of Defense will spend $92 million in congress-approved additional funds to purchase spare M982 Excalibur ammunition donated to Ukraine to support international efforts against Russian aggression.” This was reported in a budget document published last month.

The material also reported that Excalibur was listed in documents explaining how the Pentagon spent part of $20.1 billion under the “Ukraine Supplementary Agreement” signed by President Joe Biden in May. These munitions were removed from military stocks as part of the 19 “authority to cut presidential spending” steps (allowing the US leader to approve the transfer of “residual weapons” from the state’s stockpile).

The article states that so far the Pentagon has had detailed procurements totaling approximately $7 billion in seven payments in the past month.

“Hit the target with the first shot”

“Excalibur’s proven accuracy allows it to hit the target on the first shot, reducing the number of shots needed and collateral damage,” the article states.

The authors of the article suggested that these weapons were “possibly used sparingly for the surgical destruction of Russian command posts and control centers.”

The article also clarifies that satellite guided missiles were used for the first time in Iraq in 2007. Excalibur launched 155-mm howitzers – “the horses of the army’s field artillery.” The projectile was jointly developed by Raytheon Missiles and Defense and BAE Systems Bofor. The Excalibur has a range of 25 miles (40.5 km), according to the documentation.

The authors of the article added that, in addition to Excalibur, budget documents also indicate deliveries of conventional 155-mm artillery shells, Javelin anti-tank missiles and Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, HIMARS mobile missile system to Ukraine. There are also mentions of purchases of MK-19 grenade launchers, “high-precision sniper rifles”, “scenes” and “spare battery cooling devices” for Stinger.

New military aid package to Ukraine

On September 7, the Washington Post reported, citing an unnamed US official, that the US Department of Defense will announce on Thursday that it will supply Ukraine with $675 million worth of weapons, and that the US will transfer ammunition for the HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems. to Kiev.

In addition, the Americans are expected to supply military vehicles and other equipment to Ukraine. Deputy Minister of Defense for Political Affairs Colin Cole also announced on the eve of the new aid package to Kiev. According to him, the delivery will be officially announced by the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin at the meeting of a group formed in Germany by Western countries to coordinate military assistance to Kiev.

At the last meeting of the UN Security Council, Permanent Representative of Russia Vasily Nebenzya demanded that another meeting be held before the weekend to discuss the issue of the West’s arms supply to Kiev.

“We propose to discuss tomorrow the real threat to international peace and security posed by foreign states’ supply of weapons and military products to Ukraine,” Nebenzya said.

He stated that Russia would like to see UN Deputy Secretary General for Disarmament Izumi Nakamitsu and “civil society representatives” as speakers.

Dmitry Polyansky, the First Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, wrote on his Telegram channel that the initiative of the Permanent Representative of Russia “pleased” the representatives of Western countries.

“The time has come for our friends to discuss real issues. <...> It was clear from the faces that our surprise pleased them.”

Bloomberg reported that the Pentagon “quietly” delivered “the most accurate US artillery shells” to Ukraine, the GPS-guided Excalibur. Although deliveries have not been officially confirmed, the transfer of shells to Kiev is evidenced by the fact that the United States plans to spend $ 92 million to replenish its own stocks of Excalibur.
