Surgical masks have become a symbol of Covid-19, but now they are now getting a new practice in the diagnosis of diseases. The team led by Corrado Di Natal developed an innovative mask that can recognize the chronic kidney (CBP) disease with the chemical composition of exhausted air. Published in İş Magazine ACS sensors.
With CBP, metabolism products accumulate in the body, including breathing ammonia. Although the level of other diseases can be increased, scientists, ammonia, ethanol, propanol and acetone, such as CBP has created a series of characteristic organic compounds.
The researchers built a sensor among the layers of a traditional medical mask. It consists of polymer -coated silver electrodes with the addition of porphyrin – molecules sensitive to gases. As it interacts with metabolites in the breath area, the electrical conductivity of the sensor fixed by the device changes.
The results are impressive: 100 people participated in the test – half was diagnosed with HBP. The sensor accurately identified the presence of a disease in 84% of cases and the absence of 88%. In addition, the device suggested the stage of the disease.
Authors emphasize that technology can become an affordable and non -invasive tool for early diagnosis and monitoring.
“The use of such a mask will define changes in the condition of patients with CBP,” Sergio Bernardini and Annabri Ochi said.
