Researchers from the University of Linchepping in Sweden developed a new type of micropetate that could directly give ions to individual neurons without violating a fragile chemical environment between brain cells. Published in İş Magazine Small.
The human brain is 85-100 billion neurons and approximately the same number of auxiliary cells. There is an out -of -cell environment between them. The concentration of ions in this environment is a key parameter that affects the functioning of the cells. However, previous scientists could not examine the local influence of individual ions because any intervention violated the biochemical balance.
To solve this problem, Swedish scientists have only created a micropidate with a diameter of 2 micrometers – 25 times thinner than human hair. At the end of the pipette, with the help of a special ion exchange membrane, they were able to add only the necessary ions – potassium or sodium – to the neurons – unchanged in liquid and pressure.
In the experiments on the sections of the hippocampus mice, scientists found scientists: Astrocytes – one of the Gliial cell types, primarily reacted to changes in the concentration of ions. Only after the saturation of these cells, neurons were activated. This shows a complex and fine -tuned interaction system between different brain cells that have not been observed before.
