British scientists from the University of Cambridge discovered the special influence of artistic works on cognitive abilities. It turned out that the contemplation of art encourages abstract thinking. The study was published scientifically magazine Empirical Studies of Art (ESA).

The participants were randomly divided into two groups: the “Beauty” group was asked to actively think and evaluate the beauty of every ceramic object they saw, and compared the linear drawing of the second group of objects with the work of art.

The results showed that people from the aesthetic evaluation group exceeded ordinary spectators in terms of abstract thinking by 14%. Growth was 25%among artists, fascinating art.

“Focusing on beauty creates an artificial psychological distance. This allows you to go beyond the special thinking feature of daily tasks and digital devices,” he said.
