Australian scientists from the University of Wulllongon made a discovery that translated ideas about stone -cycle technologies. It turned out that Neanderthals had advanced techniques for the production of stone tools and thus showing complex cognitive abilities. The study was published scientifically magazine Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences (AAS).
During the experiment, experts created special glass gaps that correctly mimic the characteristics of the stones that Neanderthals could use. Then the team used the pneumatic system to hit the solid controlled corners.
The results were shot by the science community. It was revealed that even a slight change in the hammer kick (0 to 20 degrees) significantly affected the characteristics of the resulting transportation. While the thorn blows created larger and thick pieces, the oblique blows made it possible to buy elegant, pointed products.
The discovery rejects the perspective that prevails in archeology, where the stone tool format is only determined by the structural properties of the welding material. Now it is understood that Neanderthals have a deep understanding of stone processing technology and can deliberately change the technique depending on the desired result.
In particular, the use of different shock angles from the old craftsmen of the advanced motor skills, the calculated risk of planning and the ability to be ready. The error in technology can lead to the deterioration of the workpiece showing the high level of skills of Neanderthal masters.
Obviously, the cognitive abilities of the Neanderthals are much more complex than previously taken into consideration and approaching Homo Sapiens.
