Dutch scientists from the University of Groningen and the Royal Meteorological Institute created a methodology to estimate the moment that the climatic anomalies of Arctic would become a new norm. The study was published scientifically magazine Scientific reports (sciep).
The analysis of the 14 climate model showed that in 2050, the North Pole will become a new climate on the temperature and ice cover. And at the end of the century, change will affect rainfall.
According to experts, today the ice thickness in the central Arctic reached the “new norm”.
Sea Ice turned out to be the most sensitive marker of changes. The thickness in the central regions of the North Pole has already gone beyond the historical limits of variability. This is due to the relatively stable annual dynamics of this parameter compared to the temperature of high natural variability.
The study opens new opportunities to predict climatic transitions in other parts of the planet. According to the authors, the next step will integrate these data into social, political and environmental strategies.
Previously, scientists Defined “Degradation” of one of the important climate regulation mechanisms.
