Ticks in areas where the pheasants are largely produced and bacteria that cause lime disease are probably tolerated. This result was achieved by scientists from the Foreign University and the UK Health Agency by doing a study in the forests southwest of England. Published in İş Magazine ECOLOGY LETTERS (EL).
Pheasants are not the indigenous inhabitants of the Great Britain, but about 47 million of these birds are produced on the territory of the country. The researchers examined the ticks on the ticks where there was no bird in 25 forest areas where the pheasants were produced and in 25 nearby control lands.
It turned out that the bacteria of Borrelia, which can cause lime disease, were almost 2.5 times higher in the ticks made with pheasants. On average, 7.8% of ticks in fetaş production places and only 3.2% in control areas were infected.
As one of the authors of the study explained, Emil Michels Ecology Center and Externus Nature University Protection have “competent” for Borrelia. This means that they are easily infected and can forward bacteria to other organisms, including ticks.
Scientists say that the study has not yet given direct data about the growth of the number of infections with lime disease, but emphasizes the importance of more research. Eary, which works in Lesniks and Pheasant Pheasant production places, can be particularly vulnerable.
Dr. Barbara Chirren, when imported species contributed to the spread of the existing pathogens in the region, he added that we can talk about such “reverse infection”. This is one of the ways in which new Zoone infections may occur – diseases transferred from animals to humans.
