Physicists will search for dark matter on Earth in a gold mine

Physicists from the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization will use a gold mine to search for dark matter. About informs the organization’s press office.

The mine is located more than a kilometer underground in the Australian state of Victoria. It has already been converted into the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory to study dark matter.

Dark matter is believed to make up about 85% of the total mass of the universe. To study this, physicists created the SABER dark matter detectors, which consist of a container filled with 12 tons of liquid scintillator. This material is mixed with an organic solvent, linear alkylbenzene, and fluorescent chemicals. Thanks to him, scientists will be able to see dark matter.

According to scientists, the study of dark matter will reveal the secrets of the formation of the universe.
