Russians evaluate whether online education can replace full-time education format 01:59

Only 23% of Russians are confident that in the future online education can completely replace the classical educational format, and 43% disagree with this statement. One in three (34%) believe both formats should be equally represented in the education market. These results were obtained by the online campus of the National Research University Higher School of Economics during a study, the results of which were reviewed by socialbites.ca.

It also found that more than a third (38%) rely solely on online education programs at higher education institutions. 26% are confident in the quality of education, regardless of where they received their online education.

During the survey, participants also indicated the options they knew about receiving online education. The largest proportion of respondents chose further education courses (32%), more than a quarter (29%) chose foreign language courses and schools, 27% chose bachelor’s degrees, 25% chose additional vocational training courses and 24% chose master’s degrees. He stated that he did. The other 13% know courses to specialize in a new area of ​​expertise. However, only 30% of respondents had already studied online. Of these, 71% are satisfied with the quality of knowledge and skills received.

Analysts also learned about Russians’ opinions on how the quality of education at the university changes when using the online format. Therefore, 37% believe that this indicator depends on the university where the person is studying an online program. A quarter (25%) of respondents said education has changed for the better thanks to this format. One in five (20%) are confident that “online” has no impact, for better or worse.

Among the advantages of online higher education, respondents highlight the opportunity to study on a flexible schedule (40%), study from anywhere (33%), combine study with work (28%) and pay less (18%). He is studying at a capital university from his hometown (18%). In educational offerings, respondents are interested in learning platforms with AI integration (24%), interactive learning (23%), use of virtual reality (20%) and additional microlearning (19%). However, the Russians also have some concerns about the format; these include difficulties with self-organization (36%), decreased face-to-face communication (27%), and lack of self-control while studying (16%). . Despite concerns, 45% of survey respondents agree with the statement that online format is the future of higher education. 28 percent remained neutral regarding the statement.

The most loyal to online education are Russians aged 18-34. More than a third (34%) have already tried working in this format, and 80% of cases rated their experience as positive. Additionally, 42% believe that higher education received online is no less valuable than that received in a classical format. Respondents over 34 years old are more categorical: only 20% are ready to admit the effectiveness and quality of receiving higher education in online format. However, 27% of them have experience with online learning, and more than half (59%) rate it positively.

According to respondents, the increase in popularity of online higher education may be influenced by factors such as technology development (28%), changes in the labor market (25%), increase in the number of high-quality online educational products (25). %), increase in the number of professions for which you can study online (24%), decrease in the cost of education in online format (21%). On the contrary, the most popular answers to the question of what could slow down the development of this segment were: employers’ lack of trust in online students (35%), resistance of universities when scaling the format. (30%) and a sharp increase in the number of people wanting to study online (27%) due to the lack of technological infrastructure.
