American engineers from the University of Virginia have created a cement composition with the addition of graphene that reduces greenhouse gas emissions. The research was published in the scientific journal broadcasting Journal of Civil Engineering (JOBE).
According to the authors of the development, the new material combines graphene with limestone and calcined clay cement, increasing strength and durability. The finished composite can be used in 3D printers to construct buildings using the additive (printed) method.
A study on the properties of the composition showed that graphene-reinforced concrete can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 31% compared to traditional additive construction mortars.
