Popular myth about low carb diets dispelled 12:28

Scientists from the University of Vermont (USA) found that a low-carb diet does not lead to a deficiency of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Research results It was published In the journal Frontiers in Nutrition.

The study evaluated the energy and nutritional benefits of three different low-carb eating plans: two ketogenic diets that call for 20 and 40 grams of net carbs per day, respectively, and a more lenient diet that limits carb intake to 100 grams.

Scientists, working with nutritionists, created sample menus for each of the three diets and calculated the amount of healthy nutrients in the meals. The results showed that all three low-carb meal plans safely meet the weekly RDI of vitamins A, C, D, E, K, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid, and B6 and B12 for both men and women aged 31 to 70 years.

Scientists said these results show that low-carb diets are safe for health. This method of losing weight may not be suitable for certain groups of the population with special nutritional needs. Young women on such a diet may be deficient in iron, while older people may be deficient in calcium.
