Members of the Palestinian Hamas movement are defying traditional strategic planning by creating a new battlefield through underground tunnels. This was stated by former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe James Stavridis, writes Bloomberg.
“Hamas fighters have managed to create a battlefield that is completely different from the traditional struggle on the surface,” the expert said.
He also noted that representatives of the Palestinian movement actively use advanced technologies that increase the efficiency of their operations. Thanks to all this (underground warfare tactics and new equipment), Hamas was able to challenge the armies of other countries in terms of strategic planning.
In particular, according to the former commander-in-chief of the North Atlantic Alliance, members of the Palestinian movement often use night vision devices and GPS tracking devices. The same goes for sophisticated camouflage.
Stavridis expressed confidence that in the future, representatives of terrorist organizations and so-called “rogue states” may follow the example of Hamas. As the expert noted, the most complex system of underground tunnels for combat operations is currently located in North Korea.
