Banning mobile phones in school can improve children’s social lives and creativity. This was reported by Health Day Citing scientists from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Scientists say children ages 8 to 12 in the U.S. spend about six hours a day in front of screens. But many use their phones during school or recess. That can hurt kids’ social lives and prevent them from experiencing the boredom they need to be creative.
“Keeping children on their phones 24/7 does not help them develop a sense that they can create, think, and generate thoughts and ideas,” the authors wrote.
Social media can worsen a child’s anxiety by spreading misinformation or reinforcing prejudice. Without context, students may perceive the world as hostile.
Scientists have suggested that schools ban cell phone use and that parents limit screen time at dinner or before bed. We also need to create more opportunities for kids to enjoy time without their phones.
