SpaceX has postponed the launch of its commercial mission Polaris Dawn to August 28. The company said in a statement on the X social network that the reason for the transfer was a detected helium leak.
“Teams are conducting a more thorough check for helium leaks,” SpaceX said. The earliest the launch would take place would be Wednesday, August 28.
The new launch window will open at 03:38 local time (10:38 Moscow time) at the John F. Kennedy Space Center launch site in Florida.
The Polaris Dawn mission will be the first mission in history to feature non-professional astronauts conducting a spacewalk. The crew includes billionaire Jared Isaacman, pilot Scott Poteet, and engineers Sarah Gillies and Anna Menon.
The Polaris program was announced by Jared Isaacman in February 2022, five months after the first private astronaut mission, Inspiration4, which Isaacman also funded.
