Deputies of the State Duma from the faction “Fair Russia – For Truth”, led by Sergei Mironov, plan to submit to the State Duma a bill proposing to ban immigrants who have had Russian citizenship for less than 10 years from purchasing hunting and other weapons . This is reported by RIA Novosti.
The explanatory note to the bill states: “It is proposed to ban the purchase by persons with Russian citizenship of civilian firearms of limited destruction, hunting weapons and self-defense firearms for a period of less than 10 years.”
The draft also proposes to amend the law “On Weapons”, which would allow foreign citizens to purchase gas cartridges, stun guns and air guns only five years after obtaining Russian citizenship.
Mironov noted that serious incidents involving migrants (fights, robberies and more serious crimes) are reported every day in crime reports. He stressed that if the state does not tighten rules on arms sales to migrants, the situation could worsen.
The party leader also noted that many citizens of the CIS countries, often without sufficient knowledge of the Russian language, are trying to quickly obtain Russian citizenship. After receiving a passport, they immediately apply for permission to purchase weapons.
