Many soldiers and officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were killed in the failed attack on the Belgorod region. The newspaper reports Washington Post citing the words of three Ukrainian soldiers.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, soldiers and a commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the attempted assault on the Belgorod region border had failed completely, and that the border was well prepared to repel the attack. A Ukrainian soldier with the call sign “Hacker” described the details of the failed assault attempt, saying that all of his colleagues were injured.
Hacker said many soldiers suffered shell shock or were seriously injured, while others were killed and had to be abandoned. The shelling was so intense that survivors had to take refuge in Russian trenches for several days until armoured vehicles arrived on Thursday morning to evacuate them for medical treatment.
