Francisco Puga and Pablo Junceda: We share the vision

We share the vision

What are your company’s values? And what is the way to deliver value from Banco Sabadell and Sabadell Gallego in Galicia?

Francisco Puga

The Delta Vigo model is based on two fundamental principles “Human qualities and knowledge”. There is no doubt that all of us who implement a business project are evaluated according to our personal and professional values. The success of a company is always collective and comes largely from achieving an excellent work culture based on these two foundations. I mentioned.

Pablo Junceda

We have a real commitment to the Galician community and its growth over the years. The Banco Sabadell Group has been present in Galicia for over fifty years (the last ten years, together with Sabadell Gallego), working to provide our banking method to companies, businesses and families in Galicia. We have strengthened our traditional support for cultural, artistic, institutional, educational and university activities in Galicia, and we are also very close to the Business Organizations and Chambers of Commerce. I think this provides tangible and effective value.

What strategies does Grupo Delta Vigo implement to be at the forefront of technological innovations in the aviation industry? What strategies do Banco Sabadell and Sabadell Gallego implement to be close to their customers and the needs of the region?

Francisco Puga

We annually check internal indicators that we consider key to maintaining our technological level: 10% R&D and 6% internal training are the percentages of our total productive hours devoted to this topic.
We are currently developing 4 R&D projects supported by CDTI for the wing of the future on the aircraft.

Pablo Junceda

We have always been, are and will be, a bank that is close, accessible, a bank that has “face and eyes”, as I call it, and where it feels very comfortable to be close to customers. A bank that loves to finance projects, to add value and expertise to the daily lives of companies and entrepreneurs, businesses, businesses… But this closeness is not at all incompatible with new technologies; simply because we believe that this combination of closeness and technology allows us to interact in a more appropriate way; Technology is not something that separates us from our customers, but rather something that unites us. At Sabadell Gallego, we think of the youngest who experience technology every day, but without forgetting for a moment our elders who have more difficulties in technological advancement, I must say that here our face-to-face service continues. In many cases, we continue to work to offer useful solutions to our elderly.

What are Grupo Delta Vigo’s initiatives for sustainability and reducing carbon footprint in its production processes? And what about Banco Sabadell?

Francisco Puga

Environmental targets have been set in each of our factories and we operate in three simultaneous lines:
First regular awareness campaigns among our staff to reduce water consumption in our facilities to achieve optimum and respectful use.
The second line is focused on the processing and recycling of waste generated from our activities. Currently, 100% of the metal waste produced is reused (over 1200 tons in 2023) and all waste is managed by authorized companies.
And finally, reducing the carbon footprint as a key element in the evaluation and processing of important environmental issues. In this sense, the greatest impact of our activity comes from energy consumption. Since 2018, all of the electrical energy used in the processing of all our products and processes has been 100% renewable. As a result of the addition of photovoltaic panels to our facilities and the circulation and use of heat sources in the air conditioning of our warehouses, we have reduced electricity consumption by more than 50% in the last two years.
The result of this policy, which we have implemented in recent years, is also reflected in the evolution data of our carbon footprint; we have gone from 1.92 tons of CO2 per employee in 2019 to 1.03 tons in 2023, a reduction of more than 47%. But we are not only working on our own internal development, we are also contributing to the market with highly technical processes linked to the production of carbon fiber elements, achieving energy savings of more than 60% compared to those currently used in the general market.

Pablo Junceda

Sabadell Gallego’s sustainability strategy is perfectly aligned with that of Banco Sabadell Group, a leading and recognized organization in this field. We focus on supporting investments and private financing in sustainable and renewable solutions, thus demonstrating a firm commitment to decarbonization and sustainable development. By implementing sustainable practices and promoting cleaner technologies, the bank positions itself at the forefront of sustainability and strengthens its leadership role in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
We are also expanding this concept across all business areas of the bank’s different units; for example, just a few days ago we announced the launch of a sustainable corporate card.

How has Grupo Delta Vigo experienced expanding into international markets and what are the company’s next target markets?

Francisco Puga

Over the last 20 years, we have achieved the three goals that have defined our roadmap: to compete in demanding business sectors, in extremely difficult projects and in industrial reference countries on a global level.
Logically, achieving these goals has its small drawbacks: a higher export percentage than we would like (93% in 2022 and 96% in 2023); greater investments; creating after-sales service departments that provide security to our customers; adapting to different cultures in some cases, greater rigor in internal organization and planning of different projects.
As for the second part of the question, Delta has projects in the reference countries I mentioned and on four continents. Therefore, our goal is to maintain the brand and prestige that our customers have established in the markets where we compete over the last twenty years.

What kind of collaborations and strategic alliances has Grupo Delta Vigo formed with other companies or institutions in the aviation sector? What kind of collaborations and strategic alliances has Banco Sabadell formed with other companies or institutions?

Francisco Puga

Delta became part of ATECMA (Spanish Aerospace Material Manufacturers Association) in 2004 and of TDAE (Spanish Association of Defence, Security, Aerospace and Space Technology Companies) since its creation in 2009. In Galicia we form part of CAG (Galician Aeronautical Consortium) since its creation in 2007.
As I said before, we are currently collaborating with Airbus on 4 R&D&I projects for the wing of the future.
We also cooperate with FIDAMC (Research Foundation (Composite Materials Research, Development and Application Foundation) and CIAR (Rozas Airborne Research Center).

Pablo Junceda

Our doors are open to all sectors. As I have said many times, no serious project, no matter what sector, will remain without our help. But I would like to use this question to insist that the future of Galicia is very closely linked to our ability to create excellent human capital.
It is undoubtedly a good initiative for Managers and Entrepreneurs, Companies, Institutions and Universities (our beloved and important talent factories) to come together and work together and do this.

What do you think are the biggest challenges facing the aviation sector right now and how is Grupo Delta Vigo preparing to face them? And what does Banco Sabadell foresee the future of the Galician company looking like?

Francisco Puga

The first thing that comes to mind is meeting the aircraft demand on time.
Another challenge is to train and educate scientists and engineers who can take responsibility for the thousands of retirements that will occur in Europe: professionals with extensive experience and knowledge, which will leave a gap that will have a negative impact on a highly technological and demanding sector.
Another major challenge is to adapt to new technologies and emissions reductions required by the mobility of the future.
And finally, the application of AI to our production and management processes and progress in regulation.

Pablo Junceda

Very positive and not only because I consider myself an optimist, but also because good business health is essential for the proper functioning of the economy. And things are going well in Galicia. And if it is time for Galician companies, it is also time for the administrations to help and cooperate, to stay away from demagogy as much as possible and to trust in the certainties that we know work. We can strengthen all of this by encouraging public-private cooperation, encouraging communication and transparency, working together and investing in young talent. In this sense, as I said before, we at Sabadell Gallego are committed to entrepreneurship, to financing projects that are viable and that allow young people to enter the world of work.

From your perspective, how do you see the future of the aviation sector in the next 10 years and what will be the role of Grupo Delta Vigo in this future? How does Banco Sabadell see the development and socio-economic progress of Galicia in the coming years?

Francisco Puga

Innovation and sustainability will largely determine the future of aviation. This is about achieving appropriate and essential technologies for decarbonization to achieve climate neutrality in line with the Green Deal between 2030 and 2050. Of course, this goal also brings with it new technologies that we need to integrate into the supply chain of industrial systems and components as soon as possible: electrification, aerodynamic optimization, innovation in production processes…
From a market perspective, if there were 22,000 commercial aircraft in active use in 2021, this figure is expected to double to almost 45,000 aircraft by 2041.
Ultimately, technology companies that manage to add more value to the market and to our own customers will have a more certain future.

Pablo Junceda

I have great confidence in the possibilities of this land. There are more complex sectors due to the difficult environment in which we operate, but I am still optimistic and believe that in Galicia we will emerge stronger from the difficulties. There is also something very special that makes us different: the culture of long-term effort, a characteristic of the Galician people and companies; this culture is a force that makes us stronger in the face of challenges, no matter how big the problems are. When a Galician is faced with a project, no matter what kind, he struggles to realize and fulfill it. We see this in the initiation and development of many interesting projects that are being developed.

How can you effectively support individuals and companies at Banco Sabadell?

Pablo Junceda

We offer a good service, which we do every day. And we have excellent and highly professional teams of people who make it easy to get the job done. The customer also knows and notices this. And I’m not just talking about our customers who have been with us for many years, but also about young people. Betting on young people is betting on entrepreneurship, on financing viable projects that allow young people to enter the business world, and in this important task we are among the best. We understand banking in Galicia only if it helps, supports, accompanies and becomes a reliable partner in life projects for the young and not so young who approach us; I don’t understand banking otherwise.
