If you do not charge your smartphone correctly every day, it will soon fail. Technical director of Paverbanki MTS Yurent service Ilya Kazakov told socialbites.ca what mistakes users most often make when using gadgets.
According to him, how you use and charge your smartphone directly affects its lifespan. The first mistake is to always charge your phone to 100%.
“Modern phone batteries are designed to last a certain number of charge cycles, and to make them last longer, it’s recommended that you never charge them to 100%. The point is that if you always charge the battery to 100%, these cycles will end more quickly. The general rule of thumb is to fully charge the battery once a month and keep the charge level at 20 to 80% the rest of the time,” he explained.
Another mistake is to completely discharge the battery.
“It used to be that you had to let the battery drain completely before recharging it. This rule worked when batteries were nickel. The expert added that today’s phone batteries are lithium and, contrary to experts, he advises never to “discharge them to zero.”
Many people also find it convenient to charge their phones at night, but this damages the battery. You charge it and also cannot monitor the overheating of the device.
“Also, you don’t need to drain your phone’s battery by using it and trying to charge it at the same time. This puts stress on the battery trying to do two things at once. If someone calls you, simply unplug your phone, answer it, and continue the process later,” the expert suggested.
Among other things, if you constantly charge your gadget every now and then, the battery will most likely last less than it should. The best way to prevent this is to charge the battery only when it is really necessary, that is, when the charge level is below 20% but at least above 5%.
“One of the biggest enemies of batteries is heat, and by charging your phone in a case you’re trapping the heat. This will cause the battery and other internal components of the phone to heat up. Remove the case from the device to allow the battery to ‘breathe’ before charging.
Every phone has a compatible charger and this should not be replaced by the first analogue you come across. If you use the wrong charger and cable, the amount of energy delivered to the battery may be too much or too little. This can cause the device to overheat or charge too slowly. The best charger for your phone is the one that came with it when you bought it.
“Many users usually charge their smartphones from a laptop. This takes longer and does not enable fast charging. It is better to always charge your phone from a power outlet or a portable battery with the original cable,” the expert concluded.
