American scientists from the University of Central Florida (UFC) have found a new way to protect mangrove groves that grow in water, which protect coastal areas from storms and serve as important habitats for wildlife species. This has been announced officially. Web site scientific institution.
Mangrove forests around the world are under threat from a new infection caused by pathogenic fungi such as Curvularia, Neopestalotiopsis and Pestalotiopsis. The disease is activated when exposed to stress factors such as temperature changes, pests and other adverse effects.
UFC experts created a nutrient “cocktail” of nanoparticles to strengthen mangroves and fight pathogens. The team treated the trees with a solution containing magnesium and sulfur nanoparticles (MgSuN).
According to the researchers, in laboratory tests, a reduction in the growth of pathogenic organisms of up to 95% was observed when treated with various concentrations of MgSuN compared to untreated samples.
Scientists explained that the formula acts as a type of antibiotic and multivitamin and has shown great potential in improving the health of infested mangrove trees in nurseries.
Earlier scientists I learnedHe said climate change could destroy more than 1.5 thousand coastal groves and marshes.
