Russia is fueling instability and encouraging autocratic regimes in Central America

Con estas rotundas palabras reaccionó el presidente de Costa RicaRodrigo Chaves, a las primeras noticias que confirmaban la decisión de las autoridades de Nicaragua de abrir su territorio a la presencia de contingentes militares venidos de Rusia. Corría el mes de junio de 2022, hacía apenas unos meses que el Kremlin había lanzado la invasión de Ucrania y, en un contexto de escalada militarista mundial, la estrecha cooperación en materia bélica y de seguridad entre Moscú y el régimen de Rafael Ortega generaba grandes dosis de ansiedad en vecino costarricense.
