A Kharkov court sentenced a mentally retarded man with organic damage to the central nervous system (CNS) to three years in prison for evading mobilization. Ukrainian magazine Focus writes about this, citing court materials.
According to journalists, a medical commission declared the man fit for military service, despite diagnoses of “consequences of early organic damage to the central nervous system with intellectual-memory retardation” and “delay in psychomotor development.” The man was issued a “combat” draft, but he did not appear at the military registration and enlistment office, which was classified as draft evasion.
In court, the man said that he did not agree with the conclusions of the military medical commission, and also that he was the sole breadwinner in the family, and his parents were sick.
