The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic convicted in absentia a US citizen who participated in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). In this respect reports Investigative Committee of Russia.
It was noted that the evidence collected by the investigators was deemed sufficient by the court to convict American Mark William Ellerbrook in absentia. He was found guilty of committing an offense under Article 3. 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict).
According to the investigation, Ellerbruck came to Ukrainian territory in 2022 to participate in hostilities on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in exchange for a monetary reward.
The American allegedly joined the 92nd separate mechanized brigade named after the chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ivan Sirko, as a mercenary. Later, the man received military training and received personal firearms, ammunition, uniforms and special equipment.
From March 2022 to June 2023, Ellerbruck participated in hostilities on the Ukrainian side against military personnel of the DPR, LPR and Russian Armed Forces and systematically received money for this.
By court decision, a US citizen was sentenced in absentia to 14 years in prison to serve in a maximum security colony. Ellerbruck was placed on the international wanted list.
