A group of deputies will submit to the State Duma a bill that would shorten the working week for women with two or more young children by up to 39 hours. This was reported by TASS.
Unions said the idea of shortening women’s working weeks was premature.
According to the draft text, the working hours of women with two or more children under the age of 18 will be shortened by one hour per week to 39 hours.
The drafters of the bill argue that such measures are aimed at providing women with more free time for their personal needs. They emphasize that the changes should not negatively affect the labor market or employers’ interest in hiring women with children. The proposal is based on the fact that existing benefits practically do not take into account the needs of women with two children, and that these women constitute a significant group of the population.
Deputy Leonid Slutsky noted that the emotional and physical burden carried by mothers should be taken into account. He emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for women to take care of children as a contribution to the health of children, the future of the family and the country.
