Excavation begins on King Arthur’s tomb

Located in Herefordshire’s Gold Valley, the historic complex consists of a mound and a structure made of more than 25 tons of monoliths erected on nine stone blocks.

According to researchers, the mound appeared between the 3rd and 4th millennium BC, and the construction of the blocks in the 13th century is inextricably linked with the history of England. It was once an underground stone gallery covered with an embankment. Only a part of the building has survived to the present day.

Originally the tomb was a grass-covered mound that extended to the nearest area. Over time, the mound was rebuilt, with stone blocks placed on top of it, creating a secret area under the surface.

Experts believe that in ancient times the structure was used not as a tomb, but as a place for rituals and rituals. However, during excavations of similar structures, archaeologists found pottery fragments, tools and remains of corpses. However, the expedition that began the day before, as archaeologists hoped, will shed light on the true historical purpose of King Arthur’s burial mound.
