To evaluate the health benefits of mango, scientists collected data on 16,744 women ages 15 to 44 who participated in the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1988 to 1994 and 1999 to 2018. After comparing diets with and without mango consumption, researchers found that women who included the fruit in their diets had a 16% higher Healthy Eating Index (HEI) score. This means they receive enough vitamins necessary for a normal pregnancy.
The study also included a second category of participants, including people aged 60 and over. The results showed that people who consumed mango had a 13% higher healthy eating index. They consumed more fiber and vitamin C and less cholesterol, niacin, phosphorus, saturated fat and vitamin B12.
