The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will send a dust-repellent device called the Electrodynamic Dust Shield, or EDS, to the Moon. It is designed to protect equipment and participants in future lunar missions from the effects of regolith on the satellite surface. This situation was officially reported Web site Space Agency.
Moon dust is dangerous even for durable materials because it consists of sharp-edged particles. It also has a strong electrostatic charge and adheres easily to a variety of surfaces. This substance can degrade equipment, spacesuits, seals of airtight covers and other elements on which human life on the Moon will depend.
EDS uses a system of electrodes to create a “wave-like” electric field that moves dust away from surfaces. NASA explained that dust particles near the device’s electrodes experience the effect of the dielectrophoretic force created by a non-uniform electric field around the electrode grid.
A prototype of the EDS system will be sent to the Moon aboard Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Host Mission 1 craft. The flight is planned for the end of 20244.
