Former military meteorologist in conversation with reserve lieutenant colonel Alexander Ilyin ura.ru Explained the strategy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to attack Russian cities. He noted that the Ukrainians used the direction of the wind to launch weather balloons containing explosives.
According to the expert, air balloons can reach up to two meters in diameter and cannot be controlled. However, if the airflow direction is appropriate, they can be used the same way an APU does. For example, the wind blowing from the southwest throughout the week contributed to the use of this tactic.
Ilyin noted that flows are directed from the territory of Ukraine to the European part of Russia. He emphasized that the use of weather balloons is only possible under certain conditions when the wind blows in the desired direction.
Lieutenant Colonel explained that explosive and incendiary materials were attached to meteorological balloons. Additionally, a controller can be installed on them, which will disconnect the suspension system at a certain point according to satellite coordinates.
On April 18, the Armed Forces of Ukraine applied Weather balloons attack the Voronezh region. The head of the region, Alexander Gusev, announced that no one was injured and no serious damage was recorded in the night attack of three air balloons.
