Finland is considering stationing NATO troops on its territory 15:17

Finnish officials are examining options for the deployment of NATO troops and the actions of allied forces on the territory of the republic. This was stated by the Commander of the Finnish Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Janne Jaakkola. Interfax.

“We don’t have any decisions on this, but we are looking at different options, whether it be expanded training activities, a rotation model or other activities,” Jaakkola said. According to him, the country’s defense forces are quite strong, but the possibility of NATO troops arriving on its territory in the future cannot be ruled out.

Jaakkola emphasized that there is currently no immediate military threat to Finland and its development depends on the situation in Ukraine.

It was noted that Finland is the only alliance country that does not have permanent troops from other NATO countries.

The day before, General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg hailed Finland’s idea to locate the headquarters of the bloc’s ground forces near the Russian border.
