Scientists from Stanford University managed to determine the characteristics of the brain in men and women using artificial intelligence. It turned out that men are more skilled in spatial orientation, while women have better developed memory and imagination. Research results published In PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences).
The artificial intelligence model was trained using data from MRI brain scans of more than 1,500 thousand people. The program analyzed large volumes of images, which made it possible to develop a special algorithm to understand the characteristics of the brain depending on the gender of the person. As a result of this training, the artificial intelligence model learned to determine the “gender” of the brain with 90% accuracy.
Artificial intelligence has discovered differences in the brain’s striatum and limbic system involved in the regulation of emotional and motivational behavior, learning, memory, strategic problem solving and planning.
Women’s brains were found to have stronger connections between areas associated with emotion and social cognition. This may explain why women are more sensitive to social cues and tend to recognize other people’s emotions better. Artificial intelligence also revealed that women’s memory, imagination and foresight abilities are better developed. It turns out that men are more skilled in spatial orientation and savvy in technical matters.
Additionally, the study showed that men and women have different activity patterns in the brain’s passive mode network. This network is activated when a person is not focused on performing a task. Scientists found that women have more synchronized activity in the brain’s passive mode network than men.
