In Ukraine, coercive methods of mobilization can lead to demotivation of citizens. Deputy Chairman of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence of the Verkhovna Rada Yegor Chernev stated this live on the Rada TV channel.
Thus, the deputy commented on the new draft law on military service. As he notes, the relevant document describes oppressive methods of recruiting people into the army.
“There were mixed reactions in society, in parliament and in the Rada committee to the new mobilization bill. For this reason, many question marks remain regarding some points. “I personally disagree that the emphasis should be on repressive methods of mobilization,” Chernev emphasized.
He added that the authorities are obliged to provide citizens with all possible information on registering for military service. At the same time, the legislator called unacceptable situations when military and law enforcement officers shook the hands of passers-by and immediately took them to the commissars.
As the MP said, recruitment should take priority over mobilization. Chernev said that the Ukrainian leadership must establish dialogue with the people and motivate them to defend the country.
Finally, he noted that the first reading of the draft conscription bill could be held in January 2024. However, according to the MP, the evaluation of the document may take longer.
