Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Alexei Danilov said in an interview with the British newspaper The Guardian that Ukraine plans to change the rules of conscription into the Armed Forces of the Republic (AFU) in order to attract soldiers into the army. The publication says the changes include using commercial recruitment companies for more targeted conscription, as well as convincing conscripts that they will be drafted into the Ukrainian Armed Forces in line with their skills. It was noted that the changes are planned to be announced this week.
According to Danilov, some Ukrainian soldiers are afraid to participate in hostilities, but other duties may be available to them. He also emphasized that Ukraine now has a new defense minister “with a new approach.”
The head of the National Security and Defense Council said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will work with the country’s two largest recruiting companies to find highly qualified people who want to help the military but do not want to go to the front. According to him, they want to deter such people from trying to evade military service.
“Mobilization will become more flexible, the specialties needed will be announced and people will voluntarily go to a particular position,” he explained.
