Novosibirsk City Clinical Hospital doctors saved a 53-year-old man who had a villa nailed to his head. In this respect reports Press service of the Ministry of Health of the Novosibirsk region.
The patient was admitted to the medical facility on November 3 and was diagnosed with open head trauma, brain contusion, and closed fractures of six ribs. The man also had lung problems. As doctors explained, the man had received several blows to the chest with the agricultural implement before being hit in the head with the villa.
Doctors held a consultation and decided to remove the foreign body piece by piece to prevent possible serious bleeding. At the beginning of the operation, surgeons called rescuers, who cut the tool with a grinder, and then doctors worked with the patient.
“The first tooth to be removed was the tooth that passed from the back of the eyeball into the orbital cavity,” said neurosurgeon Anton Ponomarenko.
According to the statement of the surgeon who performed the operation, he and his colleagues then removed the second tooth. During this manipulation, the patient lost 700 ml of blood. Doctors later examined the wound under a microscope but found no damage to vital brain structures.
“Although the first and second ends entered the skull to a depth of 11 centimeters, they did not touch vital parts of the brain. Damage to the same brainstem can lead to serious disability,” the press service of the Ministry of Health stated.
The operation took 3.5 hours and was successful. The man is in intensive care. Doctors make predictions that the patient will avoid serious consequences of the injury.
A Russian who had previously been stabbed to the heart and had his throat cut rescued Rostov doctors.
