For the first time in half a century, a detachment of Russian ships entered Bangladesh’s main port of Chittagong. This was reported by TASS.
The detachment included two large anti-submarine ships of the Russian Pacific Fleet “Admiral Tributs”, “Admiral Panteleev” and the tanker “Pechenga”.
Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Mantytsky said that the previous visit of Russian sailors to Bangladesh took place in 1971 to carry out the operation to clean and demine the Chittagong port.
The Ambassador said, “After the War of Independence, mines were laid in the harbor waters and dozens of ships were sunk here.”
In his opinion, only the USSR helped solve the problem. The operation lasted 26 months. One of the Soviet sailor divers was fatally injured.
