Louis Feutren, a French teacher at St Conleth’s School in south Dublin who worked there from 1957 to 1985, was a Nazi collaborator. He had a penchant for inflicting cruel punishments and bizarre humiliations on his students. He joined the Breton nationalist group fighting for Germany during World War II. He liked remembering World War II. He also showed photos of himself in military uniform. Now his students are demanding an apology from the educational institution, he writes Guard.
Feutren was hiding from French justice in Ireland. She was respected and revered as an educator until her death in 2009. However, former students who were subjected to and witnessed Feutren’s attacks have now demanded an apology from school officials.
Feutrin was a member of the Breton Bezen Perrault movement, which collaborated with the Nazis during the invasion of France in the hope of establishing an independent Breton state. The unit wore SS uniform and guarded the interrogation center in Rennes. Feutren was a petty officer with the rank of Oberscharführer. After the war, the entire unit was convicted for crimes against Jews and resistance fighters.
Feutren fled to Wales and then Ireland; where he studied at the University of Galway and then became a French teacher at the prestigious St Conleth’s School.
“They actually said he was a Breton separatist, not a Nazi,” a historian familiar with the matter told the publication.
Both staff and students learned that the school’s French teacher hated France and was under investigation there.
Kieran Owens, who attended the school from 1966 to 1974, said Feutren was frightened. “No one will think of opposing Mr. Freuthen. He was a volcano ready to erupt at any moment. If there was any disruption it would have happened very, very quickly and brutally. I saw him hit a student and fly across the room,” an eyewitness said.
