Scientists have confirmed that brief exercise can reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and other diseases. The results of the research conducted by scientists from Australia and England were published in the journal Lancet Public Health.
Researchers examined data from fitness trackers of more than 25,000 people.
“Our findings support promoting short, intermittent bouts of moderate-to-vigorous intensity, non-exercise physical activity to improve longevity and cardiovascular health among adults who do not typically exercise in their spare time,” the paper states.
The scientists note that for most adults, incorporating moderate-to-vigorous intermittent physical activity lasting less than 10 minutes a day into their day “may be more beneficial than prolonged planned physical activity and structured exercise.”
