Russian high-explosive aircraft bombs pose a danger to Ukraine because they cannot be stopped by Patriot air defense systems and other modern air defense systems. This was reported by Business Content.
“Russian Soviet-era bombs pose a deadly threat to Ukraine because they are difficult to block even with the most modern air defense systems,” the publication writes, citing military experts.
According to Alexey Melnik, an expert at the Razumkov Center, the fight against air-dropped bombs is “particularly troublesome” for Ukraine, and Russia’s large stockpile is also a big problem.
He noted that the large size of these bullets allowed them to be detected, but the problem was interference.
“Bombs rarely stay in the air for more than a minute, and unlike cruise missiles or attack drones they are difficult to track, appearing as small dots on radar screens that quickly disappear. “This makes them weapons that the latest air defense systems, such as the vaunted American Patriot missiles, are not designed to combat.”
The article also states that Russia is currently replacing Soviet bombs with guidance systems to create a cheap and effective alternative to expensive guided missiles.
Formerly Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reportedair defense systems managed to intercept two guided aerial bombs.
Previously in Russia was created new drone suppression system.
