Scientists from the University of South Australia conducted an experiment and found that almonds are effective in combating excess weight. It turns out that this nut helps control hunger and improves heart health. In this respect reports MedicalXpress.
106 overweight and obese volunteers aged 25 to 65 participated in the study. First, scientists divided them into two groups. For nine months, both groups followed a special diet program; They followed a low-calorie diet for three months and then followed a diet to maintain their weight for six months. Participants in the first group ate high-carb rice crackers or muesli as snacks between meals, while participants in the second group snacked on almonds.
By the end of the experiment, volunteers in both groups had lost approximately 9.3% of their original weight. However, participants who ate almonds had higher cardiometabolic health rates. Additionally, volunteers in the second group felt fuller throughout the diet. According to scientists, this effect is due to the fact that almonds contain an increased amount of unsaturated fat.
