Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that the country plans to establish an operational command of the armed forces in the southern direction. This has been reported “BelTA”.
“Time has so dynamically and quickly pushed us to the fact that we need to create this operational aspect right away. “Along with the west and northwest, there will be a south wing,” Lukashenka said at his meeting at the Ministry of Defense on the issues of ensuring military security.
According to him, the idea to open another operational command arose last year as the country’s authorities realized that “something had to be done”. The Belarusian president noted that military countries are now forced to “quickly move” the defense of these lines.
“There is a rotation of special operations forces of the Armed Forces, battalion tactical groups, which, according to my decision, were directed to the south and today cover together with the border troops. <...> We also need to plan under the following conditions: God forbid, how will we act if war breaks out,” he explained.
