Up to 12,000 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed each year in Russia. This is not skin cancer, as many believe, but an aggressive (rapidly developing) malignant tumor arising from cells containing melanin pigment. This was told socialbites.ca by the chief oncologist of the Central Health Directorate, a branch of the JSC of the Russian Railways, and the head of the department of the treatment of tumors of the head and neck of the Russian Railways Central Clinical Hospital – Medicine Dmitry Reshetov.
“The main causes of the disease include: genetic inheritance, various types of immunodeficiency, regular exposure to high levels of sun when living in an area with strong exposure to sunlight. Neglecting the rules of safe tanning when visiting the solarium or on vacation (especially for those who go on vacation to the south twice or more a year). The disease is more common in women. This is facilitated by regular visits to the solarium up to 30 years, as well as the use of estrogenic hormonal drugs. In a special risk zone, there are ladies of the 1st and 2nd skin phototype, who are very sensitive to the sun, they are distinguished by fair skin and hair, blue eyes, ”said Dmitry Reshetov.
According to the oncologist, there are clinical features in the diagnosis of dysplastic nevus with signs of melanoma (asymmetry, borders, color, diameter, changes, growth, color and shape).
“Note the size increase in both the width and height of the pigmented formation – it’s a bad sign. Under the stain, the appearance of a seal in it – go to the doctor. Change in pigmentation – suddenly changed from slightly pigmented to bright or brown to black. Or, on the contrary, it began to turn from black to white. In this case, do not delay the visit to the therapist or dermatologist,” warned Dr. Reshetov.
Formerly a doctor named The most common cancer among Russians.
