Scientists from the Australian National University found that siesta (afternoon nap) helps to better cope with the heat. The results of the research have been published magazine The Lancet: Planetary Health (part of The Lancet magazine group).
Heat often negatively affects a person’s condition. In some cases, extreme heat can be fatal due to a heart attack, as the heart has to work harder in extreme heat.
According to the authors of the work, an afternoon nap in the heat can keep you healthy. Siesta helps the body physiologically adapt to the heat – such acclimatization takes about 15 days. During the noon nap, the body renews itself, balances the systems and the effect of heat on the body decreases.
But other methods of getting rid of heat, such as air conditioners, do not have a similar effect. This can make people more vulnerable to going outside on days when temperatures are higher than normal.
ancient scientists established the effect of extreme heat on the psyche.
