National Police agents dispersed a traveling crime group specializing in violent robbery and theft of jewellery and watches. They committed criminal acts on national territory and especially in Malaga, Granada, Murcia and Alicante. Members of the group are often linked by familial ties and act in pairs, in groups of six to ten. They rented houses to stay for a few days and from there went to the tourist areas of nearby towns to look for potential victims. They traveled in vehicles and when they got there were mainly women approaching the elderly or people with reduced mobility, while taking advantage of distractions, hugs or sexual offers, they managed to steal the jewelry they were carrying. Three houses were searched in Getafe (Madrid) and Alicante, and eight people were arrested in these cities, accused of violent theft and robbery totaling approximately 60,000 euros.
Cars in the name of fronts to prevent the police from working
Initial investigations began last March when agents became aware of violent robberies and love thefts committed on national territory by a traveling crime group. Later in the investigation, the agents learned that the members of the group rented houses where they stayed for a few days, from where they went to nearby towns to look for possible victims. These actions were carried out with their own means, but in some cases on behalf of third parties who acted as a front to impede police work. They also had a constantly renewed fleet, with new vehicles being sold very often, especially when a vehicle was already detected by inspectors.
In their trips to tourist areas in search of victims, they conducted several raids in different towns, and women getting out of cars engaged in criminal acts in the first person. They mainly approached elderly people or people with reduced mobility, and by using distraction, hugging, sexual proposition or any other reason, they managed to steal watches and jewelry they were wearing at the time. Meanwhile, the men continued to wait inside the vehicles to facilitate a quick escape after committing the robbery, and even to cooperate in cases of violence.
Eight detainees and three house searches
Finally, the agents used a device to arrest most members of the group after they had stayed in one of the rural houses they customarily used in the province of Granada. The night before his trip to Madrid and Alicante, eight people were arrested and charged with eight thefts and violent robberies totaling nearly 60,000 euros. In the cities of Getafe (Madrid) and Madrid, 3 house searches were carried out, interfering with different electronic devices and documents.
