Experts from the Institute of Chemical Solutions (ICR), named after GA Krestov of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and their Indian colleagues have succeeded in obtaining five new polymorphic modifications of nilutamide used to treat prostate cancer. The required shape can be adjusted by changing the crystallization conditions. Therefore, the most stable modification of the compound always crystallizes from pure organic solvents; The incorporation of a nitrogenous cytosine base into a solution leads to the formation of another crystal form.
The creation of new polymorphic forms of traditional drugs is necessary because of the supposed difference in effects. “Different crystal forms can cause pharmaceutical disparity and, consequently, pharmacokinetic and therapeutic equivalence of drugs in solid dosage form, which can lead to different treatment outcomes.
