Hermeus, the developer of the American Quarterhorse hypersonic drone, and Raytheon Technologies, the creator of the Patriot air defense system, will conduct virtual tests of the avionics of a new aircraft that will take off in 2023. This has been reported AIN.
According to the publication, the simulator will simulate flight conditions at Mach 5 by calculating the drone’s state in all degrees of freedom. In addition, abnormal operating modes of onboard equipment will be tested to check its reliability.
The actual aircraft is expected to take off in 2023. Completing the ground test, it will be powered by a GE J85-based Hermeus combined-cycle turbojet engine.
In November 2021, Hermeus presented a prototype device. Its length is 12 meters, wingspan is three meters. At Mach 5 speed, the drone is expected to exceed 7.4 thousand km.
